I have been a School Counselor for 6 years, taught College Prep for 5 years, and have coached chess for 4 years.
I really connect with the philosophy from Compassionate Schools, Dr. Medina's research on the Brain/Neuroscience, use a Solution-Focused, Strength Based approach when working with students using the positive relationship to empower students, utilize Motivational Interviewing techniques helping students change in a non-judgmental, non-confrontational way.
Before I taught College Prep at my current school, the group of 100 seniors were offered $800,000 total. The first year I taught College Prep, the senior class was offered $1,890,000. The second year I taught College Prep, the seniors were offered $2,507,000. And currently, teaching College Prep for the third year, the seniors have been offered $1,602,000 and it's only November. We are currently on track for a record year. PASS Mentor of the Year Award 2012 for helping migrant students earn high school diplomas. Coached a chess team that improved from 26/26th place our first year at the WA State Chess Team Championship and improved to 11/32nd place the following year.
