TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I teach in a school where students come from all over the world and bring many different experiences to the classroom. Many of my students are looking for literature that they can relate to, so I help them connect to literature while also introducing them to unfamiliar literature. Quite a few of my students have learning disabilities or emotional-behavioral disorders. For this reason, some of the lessons that I will post will include options for differentiated instruction, assignments, and assessment.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My class is very structured. We begin every period with a five-minute warm up question. We have vocabulary and grammar lessons every week. I pass out unit guides every month with the upcoming reading assignments and due dates on it. We do not shy away from difficult issues involving race, sexual orientation, gender, or class in my classroom. I establish the classroom as a safe space early on in order to facilitate these discussions.
