I am finishing my sixth year as a middle school math teacher. I taught for three years in the wonderful city of Detroit at a K-8 school as the math teacher. A few years ago, I transitioned to Chicago to be a founding teacher at a high-performing, national charter school. I am certified to teach 6-12 grade mathematics and have aligned my curriculum to Common Core. My students have consistently grown at least 2 years in math each year and this year I am hopeful they will grow more than ever. Watching children grow as students and people is such an honor and leads me to believe teaching is the best job in the world!
I am a energetic teacher that believes in building character, pushing rigor, and urgency. Students can and will work hard in my class and never give up on themselves or each other. We work as a team to push all students to the next level and beyond.
92% of students met or exceeded their growth targets on the NWEA MAP test (2013-14). Highest growth from students on the Scantron EdPerformance assessment (2011-12, 2012-13).
I have my Bachelors in International Studies from the University of Illinois and my Secondary Mathematics certification from the University of Michigan.
I believe all children have the right to a high-quality education, which leads to my passion in working for students in urban, low-income communities. I believe a strong foundation in mathematics will carry our kids to be logical, lifelong learners.
