I have taught and loved first grade for 13 years! I enjoy the challenge of the diverse abilities in 1st. Teaching kiddos to read is so much fun. I'm always looking and creating more ways to keep my kids engaged in learning! We must "do good" for our firsties!
I believe learning comes from engagement! If I can tell the kids are bored (or I'm bored, because I have the attention span of a 1st grader), I'll shift the direction midlesson to shake things up. My favorite moments in the classroom are when kids are pouring in with their own ideas and creativity. There should always be opportunities for students to feel their own success!
