I am happy to say that I have been an occasional teacher in Ontario for a few years now, and have had the pleasure of visiting many different classrooms and learning from many different students and teachers! I have supply taught in everything from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7/8 French Immersion...and I have had fun doing it all! I love connecting with and getting to know students of all ages! :)
I am a believer in child-centered, play-based learning that allows children to learn and discover through curiosity, imagination and exploration. I think kids should be excited to go to school and eager to learn! My motto in life is "Make it FUN!" and I try to apply that to teaching as well. :)
"I LOVE YOU, BIG ONE!!!" This was recently exclaimed by a little Kindergarten boy as I was leaving his classroom - haha! (I happen to be a little taller than the average Kindy friend...and adult, in fact!) ;)
I completed my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in French and Italian at Queen's University and returned to Queen's to earn my Bachelor of Education in the Primary/Junior division.
Hmmm...what else can I tell you about myself? I am happily married to my soul mate and best friend who I met and fell in love with during Frosh Week at Queen's. (Completely irrelevant, but always fun to know!) We have a spunky golden retriever named Sassie (Sassio Monkey Girl, Pumpkin Muffin, Sassio Pumpkin Pie...) who just turned four and is still very much a puppy! I love languages (I am fluent in English, French, Serbian and Italian, and have completed basic training in American Sign Language). As a first-generation Canadian who only started speaking English in Kindergarten (a big thanks to Frosty the Snowman's thumpety-thump-thump for helping me finally achieve victory with the "th" sound!), I wholeheartedly embrace diversity and multiculturalism, and enjoy travelling and learning about different cultures and ways of life. I spent a summer semester studying in Italy; my last trip abroad was to Thailand and Malaysia. I also love to draw and colour, and in my spare time, I design my own line of child-friendly, teacher-approved, fun and imaginative digital clipart, classroom accents, decorations, posters, and creative calendar pieces. (Just a little something to add a splash of colour to the day!) This, however, would not at all be possible without my AMAZING techno-and-computer-savvy husband who taught me EVERYTHING and figured out - from scratch! - how to make my artistic dreams come true! He is an angel/genius, always solving problems and teaching me something new! (If you like, you can check him out at Chris Bailey Piano!) My clipart is featured in all of my products, and I do hope to offer it (as well as my website) very soon! Stay tuned, and thanks for visiting! :)
