I have been an educator for 23 years. For fifteen years I taught English Language Arts - all grades, required courses and electives - including African American literature, creative writing, speech, and writing as performance (spoken word/recitation). I designed and implemented staff development programs and content for several years. I presently teach at the University level and develop and oversee implementation of my curriculum in various public programs for adults.
I am a collaborative educator who creates curriculum and facilitates classes in a manner that allows for all voices in the classroom to be heard and valued. I do not ascribe to "banking education" (as discussed by Freire). I possess the knowledge and expertise for the courses and material I design, but I also believe that all individuals in the classroom have valuable knowledge and perspectives to contribute.
