I started teaching in 1992 as a substitute teacher and have not looked back. I taught for six years in the public school system full-time before I went to the university system. There I taught Science (Biology, Earth Science, Anatomy and Physiology, and Microbiology), College Reading, and Developmental Math. Also, I was a Director and a Dean of Academic Affairs.
I teach through various teaching modalities and believe that an instructor should be willing to change his or her teaching style at will depending on the make-up of the class.
I was nominated for teacher of the year in 2003, and was nominated for a science educator award in 2008. I am a member of Kappa Delta Pi, and have pinned two education articles that are published in Reading Improvement, and Education. Also, I just signed a book deal for my book titled 'Kate'. It is about a spiritual awakening of a young girl who has suffered with Cystic Fibrosis.
I graduated from Trident Technical College with an Associate in Arts, and an Associate in Science in 1992. In 1994 I finished my BS in Biology wiht a minor in English at Charleston Southern University. It took me a while but I finished my Master of Education in Reading in 2001 and my Master of Arts in Biology in 2003 from The Citadel. In 2009 I completed my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership (Higher Ed) from Clemson University.
My research focuses on how developmental students can succeed in post-secondary education.
