TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught English, Social Studies, History, and Humanities in several schools in North Carolina and New York City. I have taught High School and Middle School. I currently teach Upper School History in Greensboro, NC.

MY TEACHING STYLE

In my History classroom, I bring in art and literature as much as possible. Interdisciplinary studies is my specialty. I want my kids learning history to understand how it relates to them and their lives. In my English classroom, I teach literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary separately and deliberately. We move back and forth between these subjects so that students can see how they are integrated. I try to teach recent, high-interest books that will keep the kids itching to read ahead, so that they don't feel bogged down in language and comprehension. My goal is to scaffold and teach specific skills that will translate to high school and college, without overwhelming students who don't consider themselves readers or writers. I bring history and art into my classroom as possible, so we can connect texts to the world and explore our creativity at the same time!
