TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I recently retired after teaching music for over 30 years. I taught general music in K-6, K-8, 4-6, and K-3 buildings, middle school choir, elementary band, and elementary choir. I had a busy piano studio for 10 years, taught a few bassoon students, ran an elementary band day camp, and taught music for elementary education majors at Warner Pacific college and Texas Tech University.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have taken Kodály Levels I, II, and III at Portland State University with Susan Brumfield, Carol Brown, and Jill Trinka. I also did Level I Orff at the University of Portland. My Kodály training provides the foundation for my daily lessons, but I use my Orff training to include instrumental parts and creativity. All of my lessons include singing, reading and notating music, movement, analyzing and describing music, and lots of fun. My objective is to have students learn serious music content and develop skills while they think they are playing.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I served as General Music Chair and Membership Chair of the Oregon Music Educators Association. I served as secretary and president of SWOKE (Southern Washington Oregon Kodaly Educators). I have presented clinic sessions at the the National NAfME Conference, Northwest MENC (NAfME) Conference, and the Oregon Music Educators Conference,. I presented research posters at National MENC (NAfME) conferences, Northwest MENC conferences, and the Oregon Music Educators conference. I presented a paper at the MENC Keokuk II Symposium.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received a Ph.D. in Fine Arts – Music from Texas Tech University, a Master of Music Education from the University of Portland, and a B.A. in Arts and Letters from Portland State University. I spent a summer at Northwestern University as a Summer Fellow. You can find my dissertation, "The History of the Inclusion of Orff and Kodaly Methodologies in Oregon Music Educator Preparation" at: https://ttu-ir.tdl.org/ttu-ir/bitstream/handle/2346/1153/Fuller_Lynnda_Diss.pdf?sequence=1

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I play the organ at my church, bassoon in community orchestra, enjoy camping, hiking, canoeing and kayaking with my husband. I enjoy working in my garden and reading. I have 3 wonderful adult children who are all involved in the world of music and two cats who are not musical at all.
