TEACHING EXPERIENCE

K-6 behavior classroom; K-5 residential treatment; 8th Grade Math Resource; 8th Social Studies; University of Oregon's Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL), Moving Up! Math (English and Spanish editions) curriculum writer/editor; KinderTek interactive iPad app advisory panel; Chicago Tribune, reporter

MY TEACHING STYLE

Foundational "I Do, We Do, You Do" with more than half of instruction devoted to "we do." Lots of practice with real-world problem-solving that is engaging and relevant. As a special educator, I was trained to introduce concepts with an explicit, direct instruction presentation. I mix hands-on Montessori exploration, Socratic circles and "Math Talks" for relevance and engagement. I love to see students responding and explaining the material (and asking questions!) in their own words.
