I've taught only grades 1-3 in my years of teaching so far... This year I'm in 2nd grade again. I teach in a small system so changing grades is not uncommon due to the fluctuation in student class sizes. I came to teaching when I was 38 years old and I would not change it for the world. I am in my last semester in attaining my M. Ed. in gifted & talented, even though I think all students have some gifts to offer. We just have to help them unwrap them.
I unfortunately teach in a somewhat ADHD style, since I have it, and I think my students have latched onto this.... they know that I will chase the rabbit down the rabbit hole if they ask the right question! But it allows them to ask probing questions that we can follow by using critical thinking skills and expands into cross-curricular areas as well.
