I've been teaching in northern Virginia for 9 years now. I'm entering my tenth year of teaching, and have taught multi-age (1st and 2nd), first, second, fifth, and now I'm in third! Every time I'm ready to drop anchor, the wind catches in my sails and sends me off to a new grade or school for a new adventure!
I'm all about making the kids feel at home in school. Whatever I can do to make them feel comfortable and enjoying coming into my room every day is key! I teach everything in quick, whole-group lessons, followed by rotations and small group lessons or discovery. I love integrating technology whenever I can, and I try to find new, innovative ways to keep kids talking and learning from one another!
My parents kept us anchored in the suburbs of Pittsburgh my whole life, where I went to the same school district K-12. Once I graduated, I sailed away to Clarion University of Pennsylvania where I studied elementary education. From there, it was on to Virginia! Now I've received my master's degree in Administration and Supervision from UVA, and I plan to use it... some day! I've had some really amazing teachers, and can name them all, good or bad. My second and fifth grade teachers left quite an impact on me and helped me become the teacher I am today. I had several cutting edge teachers in high school who helped fuel my desire to become an educator, because I wanted to be just like them.
My husband and I love going to baseball games (I root for the Pirates, and him the Nationals) all summer long! We are beginning an extensive collection of baseball bobbleheads, which I'm planning to find a classy way to display them in our new home. In my spare time, I teach dance classes, decorate (aka make a mess of) our house, paint, craft, and despite my best efforts to fight my friends, have even opened my own Etsy store. I love doing things that calm my nerves and make life a little prettier!
