For the last 22 years I have been in the teaching profession. I have an array of experience from child care as Lead teacher and Kindergarten Teacher. In elementary public school I have taught Bilingual and Dual Language Pre-k- 1st grade teacher, as well as 3-5th ESL instructor, During my years here I have been involved in the Even Start Family Literacy program, English Language Academy, Keep Every Youth Safe program, and piloted the Dual language program in my school and district. We are now implementing our 5th year of dual language classrooms.
I believe in a a developmentally appropriate classroom environment. I teach with the purpose of making sure that my students can learn everything in a fun and enjoyable way in which I use a mixture of approaches in my classroom. I use a balanced literacy approach which include whole language strategies, word study and systematic phonics instruction, shared reading, work stations, play centers, science inquiry and much more.
I have been awarded Teacher of the year 2012-2013 school year. I have been awarded free books through a grant I wrote for the school. I have won a variety of school wide contests from hispanic heritage, Read across America,Women's History. I have written Grants that made it to the National level for language development.
I have a Bachelors of Arts in early childhood education, A Masters of Science in Read and Math K-6, Bilingual Certification,ESl Certification, and am continuing in my career path to receive a PH.D. in Bilingual Education.
I have been a state Presenter For NJTESOL/NJBE for 3 years. Durign those 3 years I have presented 4 workshops.
