TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I spent several years teaching English abroad to students aged 4-74! Once I moved back in the US about 4 years ago, I continued teaching, first as a Spanish Language enrichment program at a local school, followed by 2 years in a Fifth Grade dual immersion program in Spanish and English. The model used at that school was 50%/50% with switches in which content was taught in each language every 6 weeks. As a result, I've taught it all in Spanish and English and understand the struggle to find quality Spanish teaching materials. I've ended up making quite a few myself, and thought I would share what I wish had been available to me! Next year, I'll be in a 4th grade classroom with Math, Reading, and Writing taught in Spanish daily.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I strive to instill a growth mindset in my students, first by modeling one myself. This is especially important with second language acquisition! I infuse technology into my teaching as a tool for deep, targeted, and engaging learning. Workshop model instruction in all areas with mini-lessons and small group/individual reinforcement.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelors degree in Geology and Physics, TEFL and experience teaching ages 4-74 ESL. Masters of Arts in Elementary education. Training in second language acquisition, ESL instruction.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and love the outdoors and crafting things with my hands. I learned Spanish first in high school and after college decided to truly immerse myself in a Spanish Speaking country to learn the language fully. So, I moved to Peru where I lived and worked for several years. It was there that I realized my love of teaching, and decided to truly pursue it as a career. Upon my return to the US, I earned my Masters in Teaching from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon and have been teaching in a dual language classroom ever since!
