I have been a middle school and high school Social Studies Teacher for 10 years. I have taught 6th grade Contemporary World Studies, 7th grade Texas History, 8th grade U.S. History to 1877, High School World History, World Geography, U.S. History since 1877, U.S. Government, and Economics. During these ten years I have also been a coach. I currently coach middle high & high school cross country, middle school girl's basketball, and middle & high school tennis. Because I usually have four or more preps, as well as multiple coaching responsibilities, preparing lessons that are effective but very time efficient are a key to our success! I am blessed to be around my students and athletes every day because they help keep me young and challenge me on a daily basis to be the best teacher and coach that I can be!
I often tell my students that the reason they are in school is NOT because they know everything, but because they DON'T know everything and that this is their opportunity to learn and grow. Because my students don't know everything, my classroom is a place where students can ask questions and seek to gain knowledge without feeling threatened. If I'm honest, there are many times that I don't know the answer to their question, but together we can almost always find the answer! My students are often the ones 'doing the work'. A colleague of mine once said "he/she who is doing the work, is the one doing the learning!" Finally, my classroom is a place where we can laugh. Make no mistake, we work hard, but we also find time to laugh on a daily basis!
