TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 23 years teaching experience, most of that in middle school. I have my Masters degree in Reading and am Gifted/Talented endorsed. I am National Board Certified in Early Adolescent ELA.

MY TEACHING STYLE

It's my goal every year to help each student love to read. I have a daily SSR time in which I conference with individual students. It's the best part of every class period, in my opinion! I get the opportunity to know my students in the way other teachers don't. I enjoy discovery lessons--I want my students to figure out what's important rather than my lecturing them about it--so most of my lessons are very student-focused and I am just the facilitator. Every mini-lesson is structured with "I Do, We Do, You Do" components. I teach kids STRATEGIES for improving their reading and writing in the most engaging way I can.
