I have taught ESL for over 20 years in three different countries. I was a pedagogical advisor in Quebec City and I am currently teaching Intensive ESL.
I believe that with the right mindset, strategies and resources, all students can achieve successful results. My first goal is to create a structured and caring environment where my students feel safe and loved. My students describe me as a “strong and indestructible” person... I have no idea why ;) They also say that I’m very funny and always happy. Every day I start my class with a few minutes of positive talk. That sets the tone and the energy in the room. ESL students need grammar, vocabulary and speaking skills. If they want to learn a language, they must... speak, read, write and understand others! My job is to do everything to help them progress. I use some of whole brain teaching techniques, cooperative learning, growth mindset as well as traditional teaching from time to time.
I received the SPEAQ Teacher of Merit Award in 2008. I have mentored, supported and inspired many new teachers and student teachers. I have also received a “#1 Teacher” mug from a student ;)
I have a bachelor's degree in ESL-EFL-ELL teaching and a master’s degree in comparative linguistics (English - Chinese).
Fluent in five languages. Mother of two kids. I LOVE to cook, bake, read, swim, teach, play my guitar and hang out with my precious little family.
