My first job out of college was an amazing experience teaching 7-12th grade choir in a small rural farming town. After that, I took a job teaching K-5 general music and choir near where I grew up. I also direct three school choirs and a children's choir at church.
My classroom is about hands on activities and imagination. I host everything from an Musical Olympics, composer time machines, Football week, to traditional Orff and Kodaly lessons. I am working to develop more station lessons to differentiate for different abilities and learning styles.
I have won two grants for a class set of World Drums and a class set of ukulele's.
I attended Luther College (Go Norse!) in Decorah, IA and graduated cum laude with a degree in K-12 Vocal Music Education. I recently completed my Master's at Concordia University St. Paul in Educational Leadership.
Outside of teaching, I am a youth ministry minion spending much of my time teaching 5th-6th grade Sunday School, a junior high bible study, leading a 10-11th grade small group and mentoring two 9th grade boys! I also love to run and write. Check out my life blog at www.recklesslyalive.com
