I've worked as an Elementary Teacher for my Board of Education for twenty years, and in that time I have managed two Board outdoor education centres and taught homeroom classes and Science from Kindergarten to Grade 8. I have written and facilitated adult additional qualification courses in Environmental Science and Outdoor/Experiential Education for two universities in Ontario. I've written and taught Science, Writing and Environmental Education AQ courses for The Elementary Teacher's Federation of Ontario for the last four years.
I prefer a hands-on teaching style that is geared to the multiple intelligences and diversified learning styles of students. I try to get my students outside, doing hands-on inquiry, as much as possible. I find that a game approach engages students, and then they can go deeper into the subject matter, ideally at their own pace and breadth. My interest right now is utilizing our collective obsession with technology to deepen the experiences in environmental and outdoor education.
Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority Environmental Education Award.
I have an Honours Degree in Environmental and Resource Studies from Trent University, Ontario.
I have two teenagers. In my spare time, I cross-country ski, paint, bike, paddle, read, write and attempt to keep up with the novels for my book club, which my teenagers sarcastically refer to as "gossip club".
