I was a classroom teacher for 38 years and I am now retired. I have written curriculum and presented workshops to teachers in; Character Education, History, Social Studies, Mathematics, Reading, Writing, and Spelling. In my last few years of teaching I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a SMARTboard in my classroom. What a great teaching tool!
I used a thematic teaching approach where all subjects were integrated within one theme. My students worked in collaborative cooperative groups of 4 or 5. Themes and student groups changed every 2 months.
I received the Principal's Award for teaching Excellence. I was nominated by my colleagues to receive the Fieldtrip Canada Award for Teaching Excellence. I was nominated two consecutive years by the parents of my students to receive the Premier of Ontario Award for Teaching Excellence.
I am a graduate of Elborne Teachers' College London Ontario. I am a graduate of the University of Western Ontario. I have Ministry of Education Specialist Certification in Special Education and in Reading.
I have written and published a teachers' resource for grades 4-8 with 30 reproducible reading comprehension pages and 6 reproducible rubric and daybook pages. This teacher resource is titled; Reading Teams. The publishers are; On The Mark Press USA and S&S Learning Materials, Napanee Ontario Canada. I have been married for 41 years. I have 2 sons and 6 grandchildren.
