It's been quite a journey since I first began teaching many years ago (I'm a proud grandma) but some things never change and I still love the field of early education and feel honored to be a part of it. I learned a lot when for twelve years I was the director of a private preschool and kindergarten with a large school-age and summer camp program. Those experiences led me to curriculum writing which I jumped into feet first in 1995 when my first book, Summer Sizzlers & Magic Mondays: Theme Activities for School-Agers was published. Writing curriculum and presenting at local and national teacher's conferences across the US and in Canada has always been at the heart of what I do.
I like to bring on the experiential, hands-on activities whenever I can because I think that's how children learn. And even if working with a theme, I like to see what emerges from the kids.
