TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have experience in secondary education in both, middle and high schools. I have taught English/ Language Arts (inclusion, honors, and self-contained), Reading, Algebra I, and Geometry within the inclusive and self-contained adapted learning settings. In addition, I have experience working with students with various special needs including intellectual limitations and significant communication needs, which requires them to be on a certificate diploma and take alternative assessments. I also have experience working with students that are deaf and hard of hearing, blind, autistic, challenged with by mobility needs, and those with significant emotional or behavioral needs. I have experience working as an IEP Chair and department chair for special education. In that position, I managed cluster programs that support students that are deaf and hard of hearing, and students that require significant support in order to communicate wants and needs (autism and other communication disorders), as well as, work on academic tasks. I also managed inclusion and programs for students that required intense specialized small group support to meet with success within the general education setting.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is an inclusive environment that promotes positive reinforcement for responsible and respectful behaviors. I also encourage students to take risks. Within the classroom, I promote setting routines at the beginning of the year. I include various learning styles within each lesson, and differentiate lessons and tasks to meet the needs of varying learners.
