Very basic introduction to author, characters, and symbolism. It's ready for a teacher to add commentary. Still, 23 pages is a decent length.

Even if you don't teach a film or film and literature class, this is a cool assignment because students will learn how to talk more intelligently about films. However, if you do teach a film class or are trying to get the powers that be to approve

If you're teaching a unit on American Literature and need an 18-page PowerPoint discussing American Indian literature, this one's not too bad. Actually, it's more about allowing students to experience the literature than just information, as it

When I was an intern teaching Catcher in the Rye, a teacher a few towns over lost her job because she could not tell parents why she was teaching the same novel. I took notice and made sure I knew why I was teaching it. When a few of my students

This quiz was a portion of my Film and Novel final. Yes, it's pretty easy to match the top 14 movies of all time, but you'd be surprised how many students don't know much about the list. I started the semester with vocabulary each day, so there was

When you teach an honors class A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, you have to consider your audience. My audience, like at many of your schools, was made up of 75% female students. I never liked Dickens much when I was in high school, but I

Here's a PowerPoint I had on my Film and Novel Website as a Google Presentation. It was kind of cool to have it running in the background as I taught. It's based on the AFI top 100 films list. I usually discussed about the top 15 or so by the end of

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Twelve years teaching in a suburban district near Milwaukee.
Check out my own creative writing here My wife taught four years, as well. She taught more of the Advanced classes and less of the creative ones.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Use of technology in the classroom when useful. Taught several classes completely online. Emphasis on Cultural Literacy and background knowledge in order to understand literature and how to write, but also to connect with other classes. My wife was the typical martyr teacher who planned until 7pm on a Friday for the next week. Her lessons are organized and usable out of the box, whereas a teacher might have to step outside the box to see how cool my lessons can be.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My honor was to have students published in my creative writing classes, students who otherwise disliked school or English class to succeed, and for students to tell me today that they remember lessons from over a decade ago. Many of the honors and awards from my past will do little to shape my future, but the fact that people like you are purchasing and using some of these lessons that took me hours upon hours of my own time to create is a great honor. Some of these units were important in the lives of students I was able to reach, and there's magic in a few of the assignments. I just hope that these downloads being here for you can make your life a little easier.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

ME-- *French Immersion School - Milwaukee Public Schools ---*UW-Milwaukee - English Major, French Minor, Urban Planning Certificate ---*UW-Eau Claire - Teaching certification in MAT program WIFE -- Brookfield Academy ---UW-Eau Claire - Journalism ---Carroll College - English Teaching Cert.
