My students just didn't understand why it was such a big deal for the kids in a story to get out and visit the circus. Then I explained that the homesteaders didn't have a whole lot for their kids to do. "Was that before or after WWI?" someone

I taught the cultural literacy of English Lit every year for a long time in order to teach my 10th graders about the history of literature. Then, when I was asked to teach 12th grade English, I decided to use a similar format for teaching them.

Some people make a choice to live a simpler life. Sometimes, the rest of us look at them as oddballs. This assignment, which was created a long time ago, was also kind of an oddball, since I could not find a place for it for every year. When I

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Twelve years teaching in a suburban district near Milwaukee.
Check out my own creative writing here My wife taught four years, as well. She taught more of the Advanced classes and less of the creative ones.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Use of technology in the classroom when useful. Taught several classes completely online. Emphasis on Cultural Literacy and background knowledge in order to understand literature and how to write, but also to connect with other classes. My wife was the typical martyr teacher who planned until 7pm on a Friday for the next week. Her lessons are organized and usable out of the box, whereas a teacher might have to step outside the box to see how cool my lessons can be.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My honor was to have students published in my creative writing classes, students who otherwise disliked school or English class to succeed, and for students to tell me today that they remember lessons from over a decade ago. Many of the honors and awards from my past will do little to shape my future, but the fact that people like you are purchasing and using some of these lessons that took me hours upon hours of my own time to create is a great honor. Some of these units were important in the lives of students I was able to reach, and there's magic in a few of the assignments. I just hope that these downloads being here for you can make your life a little easier.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

ME-- *French Immersion School - Milwaukee Public Schools ---*UW-Milwaukee - English Major, French Minor, Urban Planning Certificate ---*UW-Eau Claire - Teaching certification in MAT program WIFE -- Brookfield Academy ---UW-Eau Claire - Journalism ---Carroll College - English Teaching Cert.
