TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I received my Bachelor's Degrees in Elementary Education and Vocal and Instrumental Music Education with a minor in Mathematics. My student teaching experiences include Kindergarten, Middle School Choir and General Music, and High School Show Choir. I taught Middle School Choir and General Music for 1 year and K-8 Title I for three years. I am currently in my first year as a 3rd grade teacher.

MY TEACHING STYLE

The one word I would use to describe my teaching is colorful. I apply this to three different areas. First, I feel that a colorful classroom can help foster a positive and supportive learning environment that promotes student achievement. Second, I feel that just like colors, students and their different strengths can be utilized in the classroom to ensure that everyone succeeds. Lastly, I feel that having a colorful personality is essential to being a great teacher.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

While in college, I was very involved in the National Education Association. I was elected Secretary, President-Elect, and then President of the South Dakota Educator's Association-Student Program, with whom I attended multiple nation-wide conferences to learn more about the teaching profession. While president, I received an Outstanding Leadership award for my service to the SDEA-SP. I also received a Certificate of Excellence for scoring in the top 15% in the nation on the PRAXIS II Elementary Education certification test.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember! My education experience started as a child when I would play school with my mom's daycare kids--of course, I was always the teacher! It continued on through Elementary School, where I gave up my recesses to spend time helping out in the kindergarten classrooms. During Middle School and High School I continued my involvement in education by volunteering my time and talents at school carnivals and other events. My goal has been and always will be to be the best teacher I can possibly be.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am lucky enough to be married to my high school sweetheart, and we have three beautiful children together. Aside from teaching, I have many passions. I love reading (especially Harry Potter!) and music (The Beatles are the best!). I also participate in various musical ensembles where I sing and play the trumpet and chimes, and I perform in musicals at our area theater.
