I have been teaching English and ELL for the past 11 years. I specialize in teaching Kindergarten through 6th grade, and I enjoy every minute of it. :)
I believe in getting to know students, first, before helping students to learn. (This can be difficult when children have little or no English, but children always knows when a teacher is kind to them.) After students feel welcome in the classroom, they are ready to learn anything! :) Next, I believe in engaging young learners' attention through experiential learning opportunities. Finally, speaking, writing, and reading activities should be age-appropriate and fun! :) Lessons must also address the different learning styles of students, and any special need that a student might have.
Over 11 years, I have had the pleasure of providing training and support for many other English and ELL educators. I have also had the great honor of being an assistant principal for an (experiential) English school in Guangzhou, China. Currently, I am the head Elementary ELL teacher at an international school in Ningbo, China.
I graduated Cum Laude (majoring in English Literature) from the University of Edinboro in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. I also possess a TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages) certification from the TESOL international school in Florence, Italy. Finally, I have a TEFL-C certificate (from Columbia University) that is a certification for teaching English to children. Update: In November of 2019, I completed my Master's in Education and Globalization. Thanks for reading, and have a great day, Ruth
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, running and relaxing. :)
