MY TEACHING STYLE

My classroom is not just mine--it is a collaboration among my students, the texts, the process of learning, and our education system. I advocate building a classroom community, such as outlined by Alfie Kohn, that offers engaging, relevant course material that is particular to the needs of each class. I believe in using research-supported methods such as student choice, reading helps almost every skill, and the importance of student reflection. I often employ literature circles, writing workshops, and other rotation-based activities in my classroom to enable closer interaction with the students and more individualized learning.
