I am a 5th year SIOP English Teacher who has worked with ELLs my entire career. I have worked with teachers in helping them develop ways of scaffolding lessons so that content is accessible to all students. I have worked at the district level to help develop curriculum for the 9th grade teachers in the district. I have developed curriculum that has been used for both credit recovery programs as well as STAAR remediation courses.
My teaching style is based on the philosophy that all students have the ability to learn as long as content is accessible to them. My lessons are always scaffolded, structured by the I do/We do/You do model, appropriately timed so that students have plenty of time for processing, and supported by linguistic supports. I never "dumb down" or "water down" material, rather I chunk it and make it accessible to ALL students so they can all feel a sense of achievement as they reach personalized goals.
Teacher of the Year 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year nomination 2016-2017
I have a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in Secondary Education.
I am a first generation college student and English language learner who strives to encourage students to do their best and to never let difficulties in language or social barriers dictate the rate of their success.
