TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching since 1995 and I have a BA in English, an MA in Literature, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. My passion is designing student-centered curriculum that makes learning not just fun and engaging but also challenging. I am also passionate about creating life-long readers, getting more students (and teachers!) excited about writing, and preparing future teachers. I also enjoy working with current teachers and creating curriculum.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that students have to take an active role in their learning by engaging in creative problem solving, by making and creating written products (such as stories, books, journals, and digital media), and by learning how to think critically. Education should be about problem-solving, creativity, and storytelling--but this does not mean it should be easy. The brain is more engaged when the material is challenging.
