TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught middle school English and Reading for 16 years. I have taught using a traditional curriculum and a workshop model.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I strive to give my students materials and information that would be worth keeping long term. I use interactive notebooks, foldables, task cards, and other hands-on experiences to help teach the important ELA skills my district has asked me to be responsible for. I also teach lots of vocabulary, using a words of the week approach for my students.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Seventh grade ELA PLC leader.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a BS in secondary education from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have an awesome husband and three little darlings we are raising together. Since those three came along, they have shifted my focus and approach to teaching and classroom management--for the better. It is important to think about the best and most worthwhile experiences I can give my students. After all, that's what I am hoping the teachers who have my offspring are doing.
