The grade book days are obsolete but we still often need to do "Quick Checks" on formative work, classwork, daily homework. This allows you to have a sheet separate from a book that you can easily add in assignments to while walking around.

This chart easily organizes kids thoughts while they read. I usually use this as either a form of annotating while they read, or I'll have it as a task on a reading task card. They can pick up this one post-reading and complete it on their own,

I like to have my kids work with Point of View and journaling as a character is a perfect way to do it. I've found though, when asked to write it in their notebooks or binders, it is rushed and not taken as seriously. I've designed this simple

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my fourth year teaching middle school ELA. I've taught 6th grade for 2 years, 7th grade for 1 and have been teaching 7/8th this year. Throughout my years, I've really been able to take the work I designed and modify, revamp and extend it into something far greater, that works for all grade levels.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a pretty even mix between direct instruction and student-centered. Since middle schoolers often struggle with the first go around, I like to model my expectations and walk them through the activities when we are first trying it out. On that same note, they are middle schoolers and they love to talk! So, a lot of my materials are geared toward helping me hold them accountable while engaging them through discussion or intriguing visuals with clear instructions.
