TEACHING EXPERIENCE

The very first year of my teaching career was spent in third grade! At the time third grade swallowed me whole, so my exceptional principal allowed me to transfer to first grade the following year! I spent seven years in first grade, falling more in love with first grade each and every year! Throughout those seven years I grew personally and professionally as an educator, seizing opportunities to become a teacher leader through participating in Professional Development within my district of Person County and across the wonderful state of North Carolina. Professional Learning Communities, Targeted Reading Interventions, mClass Reading 3D and Master Literacy Trainings are just a few of the wonderful Professional Developments I have attended and completed! Through this knowledge gained I have become a teacher leader within my district and state presenting multiple sessions to encourage and guide other educators in all areas including literacy and math! My goal is to be an even better teacher next year than I was this year, creating a life long passion for learning, growing and adapting! This year I have returned to third grade upon request to prove to myself I can teach ALL grade levels within elementary school and to prove to myself the growth I have made in my teaching ability since the very first year of my career!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I strive for 80/20 within my classroom, my students exploring 80% of the time with my position as their facilitator and me teaching 20% of the time. Each and every day is a new day and I adapt my lessons each day based on my students through multiple reflections throughout each day, week, month, quarter, semester and year. No two days are alike as no two students are alike as no two classes are alike. I refuse to be the teacher that recycles lesson plans each year! The content may not change, but my delivery will change to meet the needs of the students within my classroom!
