Most of my experience has been working with lower elementary students. I started my career as a preschool teacher, worked as a K&1 instructional assistant, then ESOL grades 3-5. I also spent a year teaching reading intervention to grades 4-5. Most recently I have spent the last 7 yrs teaching first grade. I love first graders, but am not moving onto 2nd. I am looking forward to this new experience!
I am very much a teacher who wants children to engage in their learning. My lessons are always very hands on. I believe in having children talk about their learning with their peers. I also focus my ELA lessons around the 7 reading comprehension strategies. I model all my lessons with clear objectives. Gradually I release the responsibility to the minds of my students and give them opportunities to apply what they learn independently.

I continue to develop my own learning and am always looking for new ideas and ways to help make learning exciting for my students. I love hands on learning and grew up in Vermont with a love of nature. I try my best to bring nature into my urban classroom while so incorporating the community around me.
