Teaching experience Spanish as Foreign Language: I have been teaching Spanish for 6 years - 4 at my present job – the Anglo American School of Sofia – the premier international school of Bulgaria. I teach language Ab Initio of the International Baccalaureate Program. I have prepared students for the DELE language exams of the Cervantes Institute. Cultural Studies: I have been teaching cultural studies for 3 years and have designed a structured program for Bulgarian Cultural Studies (can be applied to any cultural studies) Organizational experience: I have been a coordinator of a Community Service Learning committee and at present I am working to establish a structured Community Service Learning at the school.
Planning: I use Understanding by Design and the idea that explicit links should be made to all students learn, do, create in class and real life. By “real life” I mean not only the immediate environment, but the inner world of the self and the multi dimensional social world. When I create a unit/lesson, it always has a transfer goal, a product that is to be used in real life and links both to the individual and society. Almost all of my lessons/ units have a self knowledge, self reflection part that is often linked to finding one's element/vocation. Teaching: I believe my role as a teacher is one of a facilitator, coach and mentor. I am there to guide students to solutions and inspire them to be active part of what is going on in class and thus in what is going on around them.
