I attended Michigan State University where I received my Bachelor's in English for Secondary Education. I taught 9th and 12th grade English at a college prep high school in Chicago for a year-long internship. I then moved to Naples where I have been teaching middle school ever since. I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade regular and remedial language arts. I have my reading endorsement and also my instructional coaching certification from Collier County.
Even though I now teach all regular 6th grade language arts, my teaching style still very much reflects my remedial teaching background. This includes breaking down texts, skills, and understandings to make them accessible to all students with a variety of pre-reading, during reading, and after reading strategies. I also implement my best "differentiated" instruction by utilizing centers where students are given leveled materials and activities based on their areas of need. I try to make learning fun as much as possible with activities, projects, andante resting supplemental materials!
I have yet to receive any substantial educational awards from the teaching side of things, but I am very meticulous and it would bother me if I did not fill in something so that the website would stop telling me my profile was not complete!
As for my own education, I was homeschooled until 4th grade and then entered a public elementary school for grades 3-6. I went through the same school system which had a combined middle/high school where I graduated Salutatorian of my class. I then went to Michigan State University where I graduated third in my class. Go green!
