I am a certified K-12 TESOL teacher in the New York City public and charter schools. My experience includes six years of teaching English language learners at the high school level, grades 9-12. I also started teaching grades 6-8 at a new charter school in Brooklyn. My teaching responsiblities vary depending on the grade level and students needs. Most of my teaching duties include: •Co-planning and co-teaching in mainstream English Language Arts and Global History classes where the majority of students are English language learners (ELLs) •Preparing ELLs for mainstream classes, NYSESLAT tests and New York State Regents exams required for high school graduation •Facilitating and teaching ESL pull-out sessions based on student needs and level of English language proficiency
I like students to be involved- interested in the topics, talking and participating. I want there to be a lot of questions, interest, focus, energy, and fun. I think students' interests, abilities, and talents should be considered when planning lessons. For this reason, I try to create lessons that focus on global issues and current events to create culturally aware global citizens. Within the content, I focus on reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, DOK level questioning and writing skills.
My students growth on the reading levels, meeting state standards and graduating from high school with all their Regents is an award for me!
