TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a third grade teacher in West Des Moines, Iowa! This is my third year teaching and I have loved every minute of it. I teach at an amazing school with great kids! I teach all subject areas in a general education classroom.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a firm believer in the student's ability to take responsibility for their learning. I don't like to be the center of attention. It is not MY classroom, it is OUR classroom. The students work to achieve the gradual release of responsibility in all content areas, daily. I believe in creating a classroom of respect and safety. I want my students to feel safe in taking a chance on themselves and try something new.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I grew up in a small town, where the elementary school, middle school, and high school were all right next to each other. I enjoyed my education in Belle Plaine, Kansas! My mom was also an elementary school teacher as I was growing up. I graduated from high school and headed off the Kansas State University where I wanted to earn a degree in broadcast journalism. I quickly changed my mind and decided I would follow in my mother's footsteps and become and elementary school teacher. It is a decision I am so thankful for. I graduated from KSU in December of 2009 and accepted my first teaching position in July of 2010.
