I have 6 years experience with teaching middle school students. I started out as a long-term substitute teacher for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students for 1 year. For 5 years, I worked in a district that served low-income families. I taught 8th grade students, as well as 10th and 11th grade. My 8th grade students were on a "block schedule" so I had these students for two consecutive class periods. I currently teach in a career center (vocational school) teaching 11th and 12th grade students.
My class is very structured. I typically start with guided notes that are sometimes printed out for my students to add to their binders. Some class notes are structured for them to write on their own paper to add to their binders. I include "Check for Understanding" questions within my guided notes to ensure students are following my instruction and can do the work on their own. I do incorporate some hands-on activities for application of particular concepts.
I graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Integrated Math Education (grades 7-12). I have my graduate degree from Walden University in Integrating Technology into the Classroom: Grades K-12.
