TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I'm Nancy Caitlin, a middle school ELA teacher in Georgia. I taught in a Title 1 school (with 89% of our students living in poverty) from 2011-2017, and currently I teach at a non-Title 1 School in a more suburban area of the community. I have designed 2 interdisciplinary units (incorporating ELA, Social Studies, and Science) - one 7th grade and one for 8th grade. My experience ranges from inclusion, gifted, and everyone in between.

MY TEACHING STYLE

In my opinion, instruction should be as interactive, relevant, creative, and engaging as possible. All materials can be used with regular ed, sped, and gifted students with very few adjustments. My units incorporate group, partner, and independent activities, as well as formative and summative assessments. All materials are aligned with CCGPS. Recently my curriculum became more digital because we are one to one (all students have Chromebooks). For my digital lessons, I use a variety of platforms from Google Classroom, Blendspace, Kahoot, to Quizizz.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Runner up for Teacher of the Year in 2013. Presenter at Catoosa County Technology Night 2018. Presenter at Catoosa County Technology Fair 2018.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended Carson Newman University and graduated with a B.S. in Middle Grades Education (4-8). I received my gifted endorsement in Spring 2016.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I was born and raised in Ringgold, Ga. Most of my family is in education (teacher, administrator, parapro, administrative assistant, etc.), so it took me a long time to accept my calling and admit that I was made to teach. Teaching is my passion, and it is a privilege to work with children everyday and try to be a positive influence in their lives. I hope that by being in my classroom students not only learn to appreciate English Language Arts but also start down a path of becoming a compassionate young adult who will change the world!
