I spent six years as a middle- and high-school English and reading teacher of remedial through gifted students, and now I am a college composition instructor. I also am a private tutor and professional editor and writer.
In writing my plans and materials, I always keep in mind what I want to assess and what I want students to learn or achieve. I strive to write as clearly as possible so that students can focus on the task at hand. I want students to leave my classroom with confidence in their discussion skills, belief in the expressive and analytical potential of their writing abilities, and an appreciation for the transcendental powers of literature. On a practical level, I also have a lot of experience with test prep (don't we all?), and I've spent many hours at the copy machine. The materials I offer on TPT are designed with simplicity in mind and are intended to be easy on you and on the environment by not eating up too much toner or, hopefully, paper. My store name, "Endless Summer," is a sort of allusion to the idea of working smarter, not harder; I love the freedom that summer affords me to read and write and think and, yes, plan lessons. I'm hoping that by offering my materials here, I'll add a little more summer to other teachers' lives, all year round!
I once had a column published on the website of the Washington Post.
I have a B.A. in English from a Seven Sister college and a secondary English teaching certification from a public university. I am pursuing a master's degree in creative writing.
