TEACHING EXPERIENCE

For the past two years, I have woken up excited and ready for another day at work. I have taught a wide array of students- from seniors who were about to attend college to freshmen who were already preparing for a life working with tools and their hands. For both classes, I showed up ready to force them to think deeply rather than memorize a bunch of facts to forget years from now. I encouraged my students to take a stand for their own opinions and beliefs. The best way to do so is through carefully crafted lesson plans. Showing enthusiasm is much easier when you know your lesson will go over well.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I use a lot of technology in my classroom. Every student has a chromebook, so google classroom is a massive portion of my assignments. A lot of my assignments are google classroom compatible. I LOVE socratic seminars. I know the best way for a student to learn is to help them think. Memorizing numerous facts does not help them develop thinking skills for themselves. Many of these activities can be lengthened by adding in a socratic seminar or class discussion. These activities have been crafted with carefully placed questions, frequently updated world events, and moments to tie in with their own lives.
