I have taught for 30 years. I began, in 1986, at the middle school level. For 20 years I was an 8th grade English Language Arts teacher. in 2005, after earning my MAT, I moved to the high school level. I wouldn't trade my experience at the middle school level for anything as it helps me now in my role as a high school teacher.
First and foremost, I think building relationships with students is the most important thing I do. Getting to know each student as an individual not only creates good rapport, but it allows me to successfully build a positive, safe classroom environment. I try and use a variety of strategies to keep students engaged and interested in the curriculum.
