I have eighteen years of teaching experience. I'm certified in ELA 9-12 and Social Studies 9-12. I’ve taught in an inner-city traditional high school, an early college high school, and a STEM school with an energy and sustainability theme. I’ve also taught over 200 grammar, writing, and literature courses for local community colleges and online universities. I've worked as a technology facilitator in a 1:1 school as well, and over the past decade, I've given over a dozen state-level presentations on integrating technology in the classroom. My wide range of teaching experiences has helped me to develop a rather unique approach to the classroom!
This is my second year in an "urban" IB/AP magnet high school with approximately 3,000 students. Currently, I am teaching 6 classes on an A/B yearlong schedule: 3 sections of AP English Literature and Composition, 2 sections of English II, and 1 section of English II Honors. All of my classes have at least 30 students. Because I spend so much time grading, it is extremely important to me to have ready-to-go resources. I am sure that is the case for you, too!
I am an extremely structured teacher. I focus on having students "do" in class, using brain-based strategies to engage visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. My lessons incorporate scaffolding, collaboration, technology, and metacognition. I also rely heavily upon game-based learning, and some of my classes are completely gamified. Students say my class is FUN and that the time just flies by!

I am a proud graduate of East Carolina University, where I earned the MAEd and BS degrees in English Education. I also completed most of the requirements for the BM in Music Education there. GO PIRATES!
I am married to my wonderful husband Paul, an Air Force veteran who retired after over 23 years of service. Our favorite hobbies are travel, boating, skiing, and concerts. We also love attending sports events and can be found at Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Hurricanes, NASCAR, NHRA, and IHRA events. My store is named after our beloved English bulldog, Sammy! He's five-years-old and completely rotten. We also have a new rescue kitten named Britney!
