I have taught for 18 years and thrive in a classroom. I began my career in a North West suburb of Chicago, Elgin, Illinois. I taught for 6 years in multiple grade levels. In 2005, I moved to Mississippi and took a position as a Student Teacher Supervisor for Mississippi College. I continued working there for the next 5 years. At that point, I just could not stay out of the classroom any longer. I am now in my 7th year back in the classroom, and my fourth year in Jackson Public Schools. This has been my greatest challenge yet. Our school district has struggled for years and many have just thrown up their hands and given up. I am running full force at this challenge, I want to be their change!!!! I am currently teaching AP LIterature, AP Language, and English IV at Forest Hill High School and love every second.
I am faithful follower of The Daily Five and Donalyn Miller. They have helped me to bring the basics of learning back to my children. While reading these books, I kept saying "Yes, they really get me!" Teaching in my classroom is more about being excited about learning and sharing the experience with others. Too many times teachers just cram information at their students. Let the children love to learn!
My greatest accomplishment is bringing my reading scores beyond my goals every year.
I attending the University of Northern Iowa for my BS in Education and then the University of Phoenix for my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.
I have been happily married to my best friend for the last 14 years. I have two amazing children that remind me every day how important good teachers can be in the lives of children.
