Teaching is a passion. While that sounds generic to most administrators, I truly believe it is a passion for some. I have felt that way since I was a fourth grade. Coincidently, I teach fourth grade and feel so at home. However, I haven't always taught fourth and was a little nervous to transition to upper elementary. Prior to, I taught young 5s, kindergarten and first. My experience in lower elementary has given me a unique perspective, I feel, on how to teach my fourth graders.
I am all about simplistic approaches to teaching. While flashy, clip art activities are fun. I have always felt they distracted my kids from our learning target. Therefore, I keep activities fun, yet simple. The goal of all activities, especially in my shop, are to teach students new things - not get them lost in a complicated, overstimulating activity. You won't see much clip art or colored backgrounds. While those are fancy and cute, they just do not fit my style of teaching.
