Enlightening ELLs

I have been teaching for 9 years! 9 years has been with ELL students in urban areas.

I like to think of my teaching style as more of a facilitator because I want my students to experience discoveries on their own. My classroom is cooperative, collaborative and my students are self sufficient learners. However, I do make time for my students to share their reflections and critical thinking with one another! I absolutely love using the SIOP model for my students. SIOP is designed for ELL students, however it is great for all and really just makes content as explicit and comprehensible for everyone! If you were to take a peek into my classroom you would see lots of interaction, meaningful discussions in relation to our learning targets and tons of project based learning driven by data! :)

Hi Everyone! My name is Megan and my passion is teaching ESL students! I'm a 5th grade teacher and instructional coach in Detroit, MI. In my personal time I love spending time with my doggie son Chulo. We love going for long walks and stand up paddle boarding in the summer! I am also a vegetarian and enjoy trying out new meatless meals!
