TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I started teaching 4th grade in 2001. Starting two years ago, we began team teaching and my day focused on reading and math instruction. I wrote our town's grade 4 reading curriculum aligning it to the Common Core Standards. I am currently working with our math coach aligning our math curriculum to the Common Core as well. I work hard to create math projects that challenge students and allow them to apply math concepts to the real world. I have a passion for reading and pride myself on finding stories and creating projects that will keep my students engaged.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style varies depending on the students in front of me. I try to use a lot of visuals, differentiated instruction, modeling, flexible grouping, and centers whenever possible. I'm the type who expects hard work from my students. I believe that my students will rise to challenges given to them. I push my students to be the best that they can be, but I make sure we have fun while doing it.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been nominated for teacher of the year in 2013, 2011, and 2009. I was also nominated for student teacher of the year in 2001.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 1999. I received my master's degree in elementary education from The University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
