TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have extensive experience in teaching art, design and crafts in lower, middle and high school. I have been lucky enough to teach art in other settings too, such as galleries, museums, third level colleges and youth groups.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a practicing artist/teacher passionate about art and education. As an artist and a teacher, I believe it is important to maintain professional practice to ensure continued learning and development that in turn generates enthusiasm, motivation, and passion for the subject you are teaching. Students require authenticity, real life experiences that can stimulate personal motivation, and lead to greater levels of creativity in the classroom. I deliver a holistic cross-curricular approach to art, craft, and design teaching and I am interested in the development of innovative curriculum that utilises old and new technology in a creative, energetic, and dynamic way in the art room. My professional teaching practice includes printmaking, textiles, ceramics, sculpture, life drawing, observational drawing, digital media and art history. It is my goal to combine my range of experiences, skills, and expertise with my ability to be compassionate, enthusiastic, and passionate about art to empower students to make choices, evoke excitement and motivation and to create a safe environment where personal creative expression can be nurtured. I believe teaching art is about facilitating students to explore their natural ability coupled with the discipline of practice, process, and self-motivation. It is my aim to make a positive contribution to your student’s development, the school community in general, and the wider local community.
