TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My name is Melissa Kay. I am a K-1 special education teacher, and I work with students who have autism. I have been in the field since 2013, and I am working towards my Masters in Special Education and ABA. All of the activities here are things I have made for my own students!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I run a TEACCH based classroom in upstate New York. I find my students work best when we work in short one on one sessions, or in small groups of two or three. I've never been a big fan of worksheets, so it is file folders and work-task boxes for these students!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am a member of KDP and graduated in the honors program with my BA in May of 2017.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Like I mentioned before, I graduated in May of 2017 with my BA from Mount Saint Mary College. I am currently attending Mercy College to obtain a masters in early childhood education and special education. I am a certified special education teacher for grades 1-6. Once I complete my masters I plan on completing the ABA program at my school to become a BCBA.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I live in upstate New York in a cozy little house with my awesome fiance and our two pups (Darby and Pooba). When I'm not at work chances are you will find me sitting on my couch cutting laminate with Karter...those file folders don't make themselves! When I'm not working at home I'm outside gardening, hiking, or reading a good book!
