My goal as a teacher is to appreciate how each child is unique and celebrate his/her differences. I seek to provide an atmosphere of safety and mutual respect in my classroom. It is critical to me that my students know I truly care about them. It is important they feel capable, valued, and empowered to take the necessary risks involved in meaningful learning. I pride myself on creating differentiated lessons with clear objectives that are designed to reach each student. It is important to focus on the whole child, have realistic, individual goals and teaching strategies that are constantly reevaluated based upon ongoing assessment. I seek to meet children where they are and stretch them just enough for them to be challenged and feel the pride of accomplishment, without being overwhelmed. Children’s social emotional needs must be met so they can effectively access the curriculum. Children are naturally curious. As teachers, we need to embrace this desire so they become life-long learners. Just as important, is nurturing character traits such as, integrity, teamwork, empathy, and creativity.
